Darnell Kovalcik of Ligonier beat the ddds. The stakes were clearly against her from day one. She was born with Type I diabetes and a hemi-uterus. Then came four miscarriages and preeclampsia diagnosed in the seventh month of her fifth pregnancy.
Despite the odds, Darnell gave birth to healthy Brook David at 31 weeks.
But mom’s adversity was not over yet. Immediately after delivering her son, Darnell hemorrhaged and had to undergo a life-saving hysterectomy.
“I feel that if I had not been at Magee, I probably wouldn’t be here today,” she says. “I thank God for Brook David and Magee Hospital.”
