Tammie Aaron-Barrada
was potty training two toddlers when the unthinkable happened, her
husband was diagnosed with cancer. On top of that, Tammie and her
husband also lost their third child around this time. Their two
children, Laila and Omar, were being shuffled around between
babysitters while Tammie took care of her husband.
Tammie’s
husband succumbed to cancer when Laila was two years old and Omar was
three years old. She only had
the daycare and two neighbors to help watch her two kids and wanted consistency for the kids and their potty training and came up with a unique idea - PottieStickers®.
To the right: Tammie’s two children, Laila and Omar, aren’t your average children. They ask for donations for cancer research on their birthdays in lieu of presents.
Since their father's death, when Laila and Omar have celebrated their birthdays, they
have asked for donations for cancer research in lieu of presents. Their
birthday gift donations and a portion of the proceeds from
PottieStickers® have benefited Magee-Womens Foundation.
On
another note, Tammie’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and was
treated at Magee in 2002. She has been cancer-free ever since. Tammie's friend, Janet, was diagonosed with Hodgkins disease when was 16 years old
and developed breast cancer six months after Tammie's mother did.
"I made Janet also go to Magee for her surgeries and treatments and she is also cancer free today," said Tammie.
