Thousands of babies are born every year at Magee-Womens Hospital. Unfortunately, not all babies are born without complications. This was true of Angela Lee’s first child.
In December 2003, Angela Lee found out she was pregnant with her first child and she was ecstatic. After several appointments with her OB/Gyn, everything seemed fine, but when she was 24 ˝ weeks into her term, Najee R. Jackson was born breach at 1 lb. 15 oz. Najee was given three blood transfusions and had surgery done to close a valve leading to his heart. This left Angela nervous as she awaited her newborn baby’s recovery.
Najee was at Magee’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 2 ˝ months where he had to complete various stages within the NICU before being released. After the best possible care, he finally came home.
Najee is now three years old and he idolizes his older cousins who have a positive impact on his life. Modeling his cousins, Najee plays football and baseball and also enjoys running and biking.
“I really appreciate the love and care of Magee’s NICU. We have a very healthy and active child thanks to all of the Magee staff’s support”, Angela Lee stated.
