About Us

Chief Scientific Officer

First, I would like to greet all of you. It is a great honor and a privilege for me to join MWRI and be a part of this intellectual powerhouse.

Several aspects of our institutional structure and function have undergone changes, mainly centering on enhanced ties with our neighboring/parental institutions, new leadership, addition of research groups, and building expansion. Although such changes may generate a sense of uncertainty, they are designed to strengthen our infrastructure, improve our scholarly environment and bolster our competitive intellectual edge in today’s academic competition. I believe that we are better positioning ourselves to pursue innovative science in synergy with researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, a national leader in biomedical research, and to benefit from the support of Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, one of the country’s most robust health care systems.

I am honored and excited to follow the footsteps of Jim Roberts, the founding director of MWRI. Inspired by his uncompromised commitment to the scientific community of MWRI, we will strive to make our institute most nurturing to important, thorough and innovative research in reproductive biology and medicine. Together, we will strengthen MWRI as beacon of excellence, where extraordinary science is done, taught, and translated to care. We will bolster our sense of community by creating interdisciplinary research themes that are supported by institute-wide technological cores. Finally we will build new bridges of knowledge between MWRI, Magee Womens Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh, and attract trainees at all levels to our laboratories.

I am extremely happy to be here, and I look forward to meeting everyone at the bench, office (mine is A608), conference room, kitchen or corridor. Please take a few minutes to review our commitment to women and infants’ health as well as the current research performed at the Institute.
