Facilities at Magee-Womens Research Institute
Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) is located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The Institute’s seven-story, 125,000 sq ft modern laboratory facilities are home to basic and translational research, core space and conference rooms, and clinical research facilities at Magee-Womens Hospital, just across Craft Avenue. While the facility is 16 years old, recent major expansion and renovation resulted in the latest laboratory design (three years old or less) of over 70 percent of the space. The facility includes research laboratories with adjacent offices for faculty and postdocs, a break room on each floor, common research facilities, and cores.
Magee-Womens Hospital is one of the largest women’s hospitals in the United States, and is the tertiary referral center for obstetrics and gynecology in the tri-state area of western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and eastern Ohio. Magee-Womens Hospital is a member of the region’s largest health system, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
The proximity of the research building to the hospital is a strength for investigators as they seek to bring advancements in health care from the bench to the bedside.
Magee-Womens Research Institute currently offers three core services, which provide cost-effective, high-quality tools for research. The cores are available to MWRI members and affiliates and to outside researchers. Each core has its own set of fees and processes.
